Why choose Aerostone?
As Aerostone products are made from aerated concrete, they have the durability and versatility for uses such as in fire prone areas due to being a BAL rated product.
Banding pieces can also be used as alternatives to traditional building methods, projected render bands for example require a Bricklayer to lay their bricks a different way to extend the brickwork outwards so that a Renderer can cover it with render.
By using the Aerostone banding pieces, the brickwork does not need to be extended by the Bricklayer and if coated with Acrasand, a Renderer may not be required, essentially streamlining the process while achieving the same finish due to the banding being available in many different shapes and sizes as required.
Aerostone mouldings can also be crafted to a large range of shapes, sizes and profiles that couldn’t be achieved by traditional render methods, providing an efficient alternative that is not only more consistent and faster, but also stronger.
As the Aerostone adhesive allows for products to be used on many surfaces from face bricks, painted render, or Fibro walls, it does not matter if it is a brand new build or an established home or building, Aerostone products can be applied to add the finishing details and character that may be missing.
Hamptons
A currently on trend style, the Hamptons look is designed to replicate the classic style of beach homes originating from Long Island, New York.
This style is based around creating a luxury, weekender appearance through the use of columns and cladding coated with hues of blues and whites, creating grand first impressions from the sense of scale it aims for.
Aerostone mouldings are the perfect choice to achieve this look, with the variety of products available to create the columns, sills and decorative items required, the transformation process is dramatic and can elevate any home.
What types of mouldings are available?
A variety of plain banding
Banding is a protruding lineal mould used as a horizontal feature to break up areas on the exterior/interior of a building.
Be it rectangular or profiled in section, all products can be joined in height as long as each section is fixed to the main support wall.
If this type of mould is used on the face brick work you will need to consider whether the banding is wide enough to cover a full brick course and joins, particularly arches. Stock items range from 25mm to 300mm in size.
Arches and curves
All the Aerostone Arches and curves are custom made to suite. It can be a plain profile band or profiled section. To calculate the arch radius, Aerostone requires the width and size of each arch.
Keystones
Historically a keystone was the centre block at the top of an Arch that locked the structure in place. Today the keystone is used as an ornamental feature used to emphasise major openings such as windows and garage openings, and is more commonly used over porticos and entries.
Profiled keystones
Range of standard profiles
Quoining
Quoins or Quoining is the term given to the imitation corner stones. Normally associated with Colonial style homes, these features have now become popular with modern homes.
The profiles are square trenched (generally created by leaving a gap between quoins), and are used on the corners of a building or piers. Chamfered edges will give a softer look and create a “V” shape between the quoins.
Stepped quoins (Colonial style) are created by having quoins at alternating lengths to simulate the end and front of a solid block laid in an alternating fashion.
Window sills
Sills is the general term for the bottom of a window. Sills can be any feature built in or planted on, to emphasise the bottom of the window.
Sill mouldings are generally used in the form of a band or skirt, however render to reveals may be also required.
Window skirts
Skirts are the ornate sills that drape down from the window sill. This can be on its own or in the combination of a face fixed or built in sill.
Either way, you must allow for the added thickness of the skirt. The shapes are cut out of 25mm thick bands and the pattern is set out even from the centre with common traits to all. Skirts are typically used for Colonial or Federation styles and can be applied to Modern style homes when used on their own.
What is the installation process?
The installation process all starts with making the decision on what our clients would like to achieve, whether it be transforming their house to give it a modern or classic look, adding character details, restoring original features or using Aerostone as a building material to extend a rendered band for example.
Once a decision has been made, our team begins the installation using the Aerostone adhesive to bond the product to brick or rendered walls.
In situations where render has already been finished with paint or a texture coat, an AcraBond additive is used to help the adhesive bond to the surface.
The adhesive also acts a filler and can be used to finish off any gaps left in the installation before it can all be sanded to provide a seamless smooth finish.
It is then recommended that the Aerostone is then coated with a texture coating such as AcraSand to give the product a finish similar to render and that then has the flexibility to be painted in the same way render has.
