Bunbury’s (fmr) Lyric Theatre

Completed in early 2017, Brick & Mortar Restoration South West undertook a 12 week restoration of Bunbury’s former Lyric Theatre.

The work in this restoration included the removal of the paint in the areas where the original Tuck Pointing had been covered over, remedial works to cracks using the Thor Helical crack stitching system, restoring the original Tuck Pointing and painting of the building.

Beginning of the project

At the start of the works, the Lyric Theatre had a tired exterior.

The Tuck Pointing in various sections had fallen away and some of the brickwork had been replaced, leading to the building being entirely painted to cover up the patching that had occurred.

A section of the band above the windows had also fallen away and was required to be replaced, cracks were also present in the parapet wall that would require fixing.

Paint removal

We removed the paint with the use of the Peel-Away paint removal system and a high pressure water clean.

The Peel-Away system was used as it enabled us to remove the paint without the need for any chemicals, it is in fact made of mostly soy beans, this allowed the safe passage of pedestrians around the scaffold.

Peel-Away works by eating away the layers of paint applied to the building, a pressure clean afterwards removed the paint and gave our Team a great surface to start the Tuck Pointing process.
